Erika Afeman

Educational Therapist & Learning Specialist

Erika has more than 20 years of experience as a special education teacher. She holds a Masters Degree in Special Education from New York University and a professional certificate in Educational Therapy from the University of CA at San Diego. She has worked in public and private schools across the country as a classroom teacher, learning specialist, teacher trainer, and literacy specialist. In all settings, she uses an individualized, empathy-based approach focused on students being able to access content while also acquiring valuable academic skills.

She partners with parents and teachers to understand a student’s unique learning profile to develop strategies and interventions that meet students where they are academically and emotionally.

Areas of expertise for students in grades 3 to college level include:

  • Structured Literacy - Reading and decoding instruction

  • Reading comprehension

  • Writing, note-taking, study skills

  • Executive functioning
